Internship Experience

During my past two years of working with the Honors Work Based Learning program I have been able to further my education, skills, and begin to work on my future career. My first year in the program I had an internship with NorthEast Georgia Medical Center, this allowed me to explore all aspects of the healthcare field, and showed me which path I wanted to take. I was able to shadow medical professionals, serve patients, and gain on site skills. I was able to focus on the career I wanted, and learned the importance of my work. I was able to learn important bedside manner, practical skills such as preparing IV's, proper sanitation, and how to care for patients.During my second year in the program I have been able to work in a Pediatrics Office as a nursing assistant. I am able to interact with children daily. My task include calming patients, taking vitals, sanitizing equipment, education, and organizing information. My internships have prepared me for my future career, as I have acquired valuable knowledge that I would not have been exposed to had I not been a part of the program. I have been able to clarify my aspirations because of the Honors Work Based Learning Program. The program has allowed me to solidify my passion in pediatrics. I have been able to experience a variety of careers, and narrow my goals. I am able to join the workforce with a head start, as I have prepared for my future, and have obtained skills needed in advance.
